The Cycle Mate Story
Cycle Mate is the vision of Yorkshire-based engineer, innovator and inventor, Martin McCarthy.
“I had the idea for Cycle Mate after a particularly long walk home with a puncture! No repair kit with me. No spare inner tube. Not ideal.
As I walked (and walked!) I thought about the tools that can help you find a puncture, but as most cyclists know, the options are pretty limited, and unreliable. That got my mind peddling. I was determined to find a solution.”
Cycle Mate was born out of the simple fact there’s no go-to tool to help you to find your puncture. And even when you do find it (using water, or by feeling the air on your face) you still need at least two pairs of hands to do it quickly, and without losing your cool.
Half of the Cycle Mate kit evolved from standard tyre levers (an already invaluable tool) into an extra pair of hands for holding the inner tube securely at the puncture site for repair. The other key part is the unique puncture detector, which is simple, but effective. It uses a series of paddles that spin on detection of escaping air, which means it’s useful at any angle. Clever, huh?
“It’s taken a couple of years to get to where we are now, with a product patented in the UK, Europe, and the US that’s sold exclusively on Amazon. I’m so happy that Cycle Mate now gives any cyclist peace of mind before hitting the road and a lightweight tool so they can fix their own punctures confidently, safely and quickly.”
